Royal Air Force Euphonium player and former principal Euphonium player of the Yorkshire Building Society, Grimethorpe Colliery and Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Bands, Michael Howley is delighted to be a Willson Artist.
Following an education in the brass band tradition of Yorkshire, Michael studied Euphonium with Steven Mead and David Thornton and James Gourlay at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester. After completing his degree, Michael moved back to Yorkshire and studied for a post graduate certificate in education at the University of Leeds. Having worked in Primary and Secondary education, before joining the RAF in 2015, Michael held the position of Senior Lecturer at Leeds College of Music.
Michael has toured the world as a performer, conductor and teacher, has many CD and DVD recording to his credit. When asked for a couple of highlights Michael said.
'I really enjoy competition and winning the European Brass Band Championships and the British Open with YBS was very exciting. I was also part of the brilliant Brighouse and Rastrick band that won the Brass in Concert championships. Music has taken me around the world. My two tours of Australia, which culminated in a performance at the Sydney Opera House, are certainly highlights! As a conductor, I was honoured to lead Concord brass Band, the champion band of Denmark, in the European championships in Linz, Austria in 2010.
Michael performs exclusively on the Willson Celebration 2960-ta UK Euphonium.
